Closing the Achievement Gap for Black and Brown Students
Elevate Education Initiative is a nonprofit dedicated to closing the educational achievement gap in underserved communities. Founded by an educator with 15+ years of experience, we’ve served 2,000+ learners across Maryland and DC—from preschool to adult learners.
Our mission
Our Why: Education is the great equalizer—but too many students lack access to consistent, personalized practice and culturally responsive support.
Services
Our Solution
We build mastery-based math and reading solutions that combine self-paced practice, culturally responsive content, and technology-enabled support—delivered through school and aftercare licensing, community partnerships, and scholarships.
Too many students fall behind early—and without repetition, foundational mastery, and consistent support, gaps widen over time.
Early Grade Proficiency Gaps
Over 75% of Black and Brown students in grades 1–6 are not meeting grade-level expectations in math or reading (DC & Maryland trends).
Low Proficiency Rates in DC
In DC, only 23% of Black and 32% of Latinx students are reading proficient; math proficiency is even lower.
Persistent Opportunity Gaps
Achievement gaps exceed 50 percentage points between Black/Latinx and white students.
